At Kinsey Inquiry and Discovery School, we are dedicated to providing an undeniable foundation for our young learners, nurturing their curiosity, and fostering a love for knowledge. Through engaging and inclusive education, we empower our students to develop essential skills, unlock their unique potential, and become lifelong learners. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child's individuality is celebrated, and their social-emotional well-being is prioritized. With a focus on academic excellence, character development, and the cultivation of critical thinking, we aim to equip our students with the tools they need to navigate the ever-changing world with confidence and make an undeniable impact. Together, with the support of our dedicated staff, engaged parents, and the broader community, we strive to create an educational journey that sets the stage for a future filled with endless possibilities.

Kinsey Inquiry and Discovery School embraces the undeniable power of place-based education and project-based learning to enrich students' experiences, fostering their development of college and career readiness attributes.

  • At Kinsey, learning goes far beyond the traditional classroom. Through hands-on projects, outdoor adventures, and creative exploration, we inspire students to become curious, confident, and capable learners. Here are a few of the signature experiences that make our school truly special:

    Discovery Day Classes
Each quarter, students in grades 3–5 participate in Discovery Day—a special opportunity to explore topics outside the regular curriculum. These engaging classes reflect student interests and offer choices like art, STEM challenges, environmental science, and more. We do our best to place students in one of their top three selections. The quarter concludes with a school-wide Showcase, where students proudly present their Discovery Day projects alongside classroom learning from their project-based units.

    • First Showcase: September 9th during our Open House, with a focus on student as explorers in learning

    • Second Showcase: During Parent-Teacher Conferences in October
Keep an eye on our "Save the Date" section each month for upcoming showcase events!

    Project-Based Learning (PBL)
At Kinsey, learning is an adventure. Through project-based learning, students dive into real-world challenges and work together to find creative solutions. These long-term projects help students build a deeper understanding of academic content while practicing important life skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Whether designing a plan to run a successful business or creating a museum exhibit, students see the impact of their work—making learning meaningful, relevant, and fun.

    Learning Excursions: Place-Based Education
We believe the best learning often happens outside four walls. Through place-based education, students experience the world around them—whether it’s hiking in local forests, kayaking the Verde River, or exploring our community’s rich history and culture. Outdoor learning days help students connect with nature, apply what they’ve learned, and grow a strong sense of responsibility to their world. These experiences create lasting memories while strengthening academic knowledge and life skills.

At Kinsey Inquiry and Discovery School, we believe in nurturing the whole child through exploration, creativity, and a deep connection to learning. Our students don’t just go through school—they grow through it. With every project, discovery, and outdoor adventure, they gain confidence, curiosity, and purpose.

We are proud to offer experiences that help every student shine—and in doing so, help them become undeniable in their brilliance, their potential, and their impact on the world.

Hotshot crews were first established in Southern California in the late 1940s.They were called “Hotshot” crews because they worked on the hottest part of wildfires. These are highly skilled hand crews that mobilize all over the country to keep communities safe.

In Flagstaff, we have been grateful to have these highly skilled fire fighters come to the aide of our community. We have changed our mascot to honor this diverse group of men and women who work to protect our lands and communities. Like these crews, we want our students to become stewards of the land, while having the skills to thrive in the communities they live.
